Navy Ship

The United States Navy came to visit Togo last weekend.  Apparently, they were on a Good Will tour of West Africa and were bringing supplies and donations to the poorer countries.  In Togo, they hosted a dinner for some dignitaries.  Their ship was docked right behind us in the port, so it added extra interest to the otherwise mundane port, which imports a ton of rice. The really interesting part of their presence in the port was the very cool ship they were on.  It is the HSV 2 "Swift" and apparently can reach speeds of 80 km/h.

Because of a fuel delay in another West African country, they arrived late.  They ended up leaving earlier than planned due to weather, so they only spent about 24 hours in the port.  The crew were not allowed to leave their ship, so we looked at them from our deck, and they waved at us from their deck.  It did feel nice to have something from home nearby for just a little while!
